Now that summer is finally here, it's time to beat the heat and enjoy your time off by hiding out in your local movie theater and seeing some great films. Every year, there are great movies released during the summer but deciding which ones to see can be challenging simply because there are so many of them. That said, here are 2011's three must-see summer movies:
1.) "Cars 2." Road trips used to be a summer staple but with the economy still recovering, some people are choosing to stay home these days. However, "Cars 2" might just satisfy your need for a old-fashioned road trip and your desire to see first-rate animation. This second installment of Pixar's popular franchise finds Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) and his friend Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) headed to the World Grand Prix for some exciting racing action. However, Mater gets more than he bargained for when he gets involved in international espionage. Will Lightning McQueen win the race? Will Mater be able to escape the spies? Watch the movie to find out. It's in theaters now.
2.) "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two." It's been a few years since the novel version of "Deathly Hallows" was released and now it's time to see this epic tale wrapped up on the big screen. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint all reprise their roles as Harry, Hermione, and Ron, so this is definitely one movie that will thrill Harry Potter fans. But will Harry be successful when he goes up against the evil Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes)? The only way to find out is by watching this movie when it hits theaters on July 15. (You could also read J.K. Rowling's popular novel if you want to find out how the tale ends before the movie is released.)
3.) "Larry Crowne." Tom Hanks makes a comeback both as an actor and director when he appears with Julia Roberts in this romantic comedy that opens on July 1. Hanks, who directed "That Thing You Do!" back in 1996, stars as an unemployed, middle-aged man who returns to college, only to fall in love with a beautiful speech professor (Roberts). Two-time Oscar winner Hanks is great in everything he stars in and it will be a treat to see him paired up with Roberts, a romantic comedy veteran. This is the movie to see if your summer needs a little romance and a bit of star power.
These are 2011's must-see summer movies. Each one will entertain you and help you beat the heat by giving you the chance to hide out in a frosty, air-conditioned movie theater for a couple of hours. And if these three must-see summer movies aren't enough, don't worry. There are a number of other films that you can see and enjoy such as 'Cowboys and Aliens," "The Smurfs," "Final Destination 5," and "Conan the Barbarian." Whatever you're in the mood for, there's a movie that will keep you entertained this summer. Happy viewing!
